presents

"MANDOLIN (and VARIOUS SIMILAR INSTRUMENTS) WORKSHOP"
with strings wizard DAVE PANTING

In our ongoing series of day-long workshops promoting the traditional performing arts of Newfoundland and Labrador, we're ecstatic to have Dave Panting facilitate this workshop!

photograph Rick WestDave has been involved with countless folk bands, and has played as a session musician on innumerable recordings. As a singer, songwriter and traditional player, Dave has gained respect as a world class musician. (Among other things!!)

Dave will talk a about the technicalities involved in playing the mandolin and will give demonstrations of other similar stringed instruments, such as the mandolin's big brother the mandola/cittern/bouzouki and its evil cousin the tenor banjo!

...and yes, you will learn to play a tune!

There is no age limit on St. John's Folk Arts Council Workshops, but all participants must supply their own (related!) instrument and should be able to play at least one tune.
