FOLK NIGHT happens every Wednesday night at the SHIP PUB (formerly known as the SHIP INN) on Solomon's Lane (265 Duckworth). The music goes from 9:00 pm to 12:00 am and features two sets by a solo performer or group paid from the $5 admission fee. During the breaks (and after each featured set) amateurs and professionals from the audience get up on stage to play tunes, sing songs, recite or contribute in their own unique way. The crowd is usually loaded (with musicians) and the entertainment is consistently good. There is also the opportunity to win several door prizes including CDs, tapes, T-shirts and books published here in Newfoundland.

John Clarke, a local musician and longtime supporter and host of FOLK NIGHT, and the Programming Committee select the weekly lineups. If you are interested in performing or have suggestions on who you like to see featured at Folk Night, please contact John by email. The unsung heros of FOLK NIGHT are the volunteers who serve at the door.  One of them, Emily Urquhart, wrote a lovely story about the Ship Pub that is posted on CBC's Vinyl Cafe's Story Exchange (here)

Love Folk Night? How about volunteering as a host or door person? We are looking for extra people to fill out our fall schedule. It's an excellent opportunity to meet other like-minded folks in the community. Great for newcomers, students looking to add experience to their résumé, and anyone who wishes to support the NL Folk Arts Council in providing this fantastic event each week. Please email here or call 576-8508 if you would like to get involved!.
