The ocean, rocky hills and sea-salt air inspired Melanie at a young age – infusing her songwriting since she was 14. She began performing live in St. John’s in Stagefright Productions dinner theatres while developing her original material. As well as having ten years of private vocal instruction, Melanie graduated from Sheridan College with Honours in Music and was awarded the Prime Time Radio scholarship for her original compositions. Fresh from the scene in Toronto she’s bringing her unique salty folk-rock sound back home where it belongs! Since her return, Melanie has become very involved in the live music scene, performing her original music throughout downtown St. John’s and has also participated in some special event shows, including a recent Sarah Mclachlan tribute concert. Armed with a voice that effortlessly alternates between soft and soothing to powerful and rocktastic, Melanie O’Brien delivers a distinctive original sound and haunting lyrics that weave folk and rock into an unforgettable east coast melody.
