Chelsea Parsons
photo courtesy of Chelsea ParsonsSinging along to GREAT BIG SEA songs since she was three, twelve-year old Chelsea Parsons of Portugal Cove has been taking voice and guitar lessons for four years and performing for three years at events including the Portugal Cove Regatta and the Young Folk at the Hall concert.  She recently won the O'Reilly's Irish Pub Open Mic For Young Performers competion and has made two CDs, In the Comfort of Red and Beneath the Willow.     (website)
 
Katrina & Keely Boland
photo courtesy of the Boland familyKatrina (10, guitar) and Keely (7, fiddle)  are quite familiar with the tunes and songs of outport Newfoundland, having heard these in their home since they were born.   They have a relaxed stage presence and have frequently played with their dad's band to senior's home around St. John's.  This will be Keely's second and Katrina's fourth appearance on the Neil Murray Stage Both have performed at the annual Young Folk at the Hall concert.
 
Peter Green
Photo by Rick WestPeter Green (13) of Victoria (NL) has performed at four Young Folk at the Hall concerts as well as school concerts, church and family gatherings, on TV for the Janeway Telethon, a Cadet fundraiser and a country/bluegrass jam session.  He enjoys singing and playing guitar and has received lessons from Duane Andrews as well as from instructors at the Vinland Music Camp in Gros Morne National Park.
 
Russells in the Corner
photo courtesy of Kelly Russell RUSSELLS IN THE CORNER are Naomi & Tamsyn Russell, daughters of well-known fiddler, Kelly Russell, and traditional dancer/folklorist, Tonya Kearley. Naomi 9) plays the fiddle and Tamsyn 6) sings and plays the piano. Performances include school concerts, the St. Luke's Home Benefit Concert at the Arts & Culture Centre, a concert with The Shallaway Choir at St. Mary's Church, Out of the Fog and Neil Murray Stage appearances, and Frank Maher's Accordion Funeral.  Their repertoire includes Newfoundland fiddle tunes, songs and recitations.
 
Step Fiddlers
photo by Rick West The STEP FIDDLERS are a group of talented young musicians and a sub-group of the Suzuki Talent Education Program of St. John's.  They have been playing Newfoundland tunes in the St. John's area since 1982. Directed since the early days by Christina Smith, the group has become self-perpetuating as the older musicians teach the beginners. Assistant Directors John Hawkin and Michael Hughes teach, lead, and perform with the group. The band has a CD, Galing for a Storm.
