NEIL MURRAY STAGE
SATURDAY AFTERNOON, AUGUST 5
Katrina & Keely Boland
Katrina (9, guitar) and Keely (6, fiddle) are quite familiar with the tunes and songs of outport Newfoundland, having heard these in their home since they were born. They have a relaxed stage presence and have frequently played with their dad's band to senior's home around St. John's. This will be Keely's first and Katrina's third appearance on the Neil Murray Stage. Katrina has also performed in three Young Folk at the Hall concerts. |

Peter Green
Peter (12) of Victoria (NL) has performed at four Young Folk at the Hall concerts as well as school concerts, church and family gatherings, on TV for the Janeway Telethon, a Cadet fundraiser and a country/bluegrass jam session. He enjoys singing and playing guitar and has received lessons from Duane Andrews as well as from instructors at the Vinland Music Camp in Gros Morne National Park. |

William Burgess
William (7) has been playing the accordian for nearly a year. He has played at his school concert with Fergus O'Byrne and Jim Payne who are big influences on him. William loves traditional Newfoundland music and loves listening to Harry Hibbs. This will be William's first appearance on the Neil Murray Stage. |

Danny & Peter Mills
Danny (15) and Peter (13) have been playing on the Neil Murray Stage and at Young Folk at the Hall concerts for several years. They also have appeared on television. They love all kinds of music and are at it all the time.

Allan Ricketts
Allan is a traditional musician, singer and award-winning visual artist from Torbay. While he also plays the banjo, bouzouki, guitar mandolin and tin whistle, his primary instrument is the accordion which he has played for 8 years. He has performed at many shows, festivals and sessions around St. John's and is a member of Eric West's POTLUCK SINGERS. Allan was featured on Pat Moran and Chris Andrew's recent CD, No Place Like Home, singing The Hillsides of Torbay. |

Naomi & Tamsyn Russell
From Trinity, Newfoundland, Naomi & Tamsyn are the daughters of Common Ground performer, Kelly
Russell, and Tonya Kearley. Naomi (age 8) has been playing fiddle for almost a
year and her performances to date include several school concerts, a concert
with The Shallaway Choir at St. Mary's Church and an appearance on Out of
the Fog. Tamsyn (age 5) is the singer of the family and is also learning
piano. They will be accompanied by Mom & Dad.

Ellen Power
Ellen (12) has been singing old songs at Newfoundland festivals since the age of three and was told by her grandmother that she could sing before she could talk. Her father, Pius Power Jr., and her grandfather, Pius Power Sr. were fixtures at folk festivals, as is her mother and mentor, Mary Ellen Power. Ellen says she likes to sing because it is part of being a member of my family. She particularly likes long songs and songs that tell a story. Ellen regularly attends song circles and is a veteran of many performances at this festival and Young Folk at the Hall concerts. |

The Palmer Girls
From Conception Bay South, the PALMER GIRLS feature original material and dynamic renditions of traditional songs, gospel and blues. All sing and play a variety of instruments including keyboards tin whistle, fiddle, and bodhran. Kaliyan (16), Cassie (15), Joesie (13), Thea (11) and Shaelin (9) showcased at the 2002 Juno Awards and recently for Targa Newfoundland and the Newfoundland Symphony Big Ticket Gala to a standing ovations. They played for the Qatar Royal Family at the Grand Opening of the College of the North Atlantic in Qatar last September. (website) |
