WORKSHOPS

Our festival workshops have been popular ever since they were initiated eight years ago. Originally there was only a "Traditional Instruments Tent" and in 2003 "Oral Traditions" and "Dance" stages were added as was the change to morning sessions so that an acoustic and unapplified environment could be offered without competition from the Main Stage. The main objective of the workshops is to provide an opportunity for the audience to interact and learn from local and visiting performers in casual and intimate sessions. Whether they be demonstrations of varying musical styles on a host of different instruments, recitations and acapella songs, or Newfoundland dance steps, the morning workshops are well worth getting up for. Many festival-goers have said that these workshops are the highlight of the festival.

We have two new workshops for children.  On Saturday morning, children  will have an opportunity to create their own designs as they explore printmaking and stitchery techniques demonstrated by instructors from the Anna Templeton Centre.  On Sunday morning, an instructor from the Clay Studio will guide children through a clay project with a musical instrument theme (shakers, whistles, etc.).
