Events and Workshops

Besides the Annual Folk Festival and weekly folk night, the FAS presents other events including the Christmas Carol Wassail and numerous concerts.

Past workshops have highlighted the cultural heritage of the Province exploring several Newfoundland traditions including songs, set dancing, mat hooking, mummering and the playing of a wide variety of musical intruments. Young Folk at the Hall, a young people's workshop and concert, has been offered annually since 2002 ( for details on concerts in recent years, see below).



9th Annual Holiday Wassail - December 21st

 

George St. United Church

The Annual Holiday Wassail at George Street United Church is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 21, 2014!

The show lineup includes Jenny Gear and Sandy Morris, Bob Macdonald with Bill Rose and Bud Gaulton, Emma Peckford, a Ukrainian-themed performance from the Cherwick family, fiddlers extraordinaire Maile Graham-Laidlaw and Tatsu Oki, and intermission music by Len Penton, the STEP Fiddlers, our resident mummers troupe, the Mummers and the Paupers, and a couple more surprises yet to come...

Tickets are going quickly... Tickets are $10 and available at the NLFAS office at Suite 206 223 Duckworth between 9:00 and 3:00 Monday to Friday. That is the second floor of the building between Moksha Yoga and the Club restaurant. Please feel free to call 576-8508 to ensure some one will be here when you arrive as we may step out and miss you if you just show up. We are processing ticket sales with cash only please!

We have sponsorship opportunities for local businesses and individuals (hey, they come with tickets!) so feel free to send an email to events@nlfolk.com or call the office @ 576-8508 to secure yourself an ad space, some show tickets and the warm fuzzy feeling that comes from supporting the cause!

Kids 12 years and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

The doors open at 1:30 and the Wassail runs from 2 to 4:30 pm with a short intermission.
