New Home for Folk Club
In March of this year the Board decided that the Folk Club needed a new venue mainly because attendance at the Blarney Stone had been poor during the winter months. The Folk Club moved to O'Reilly's shortly after Paddy's Day on a two-month trial basis. When the trial period was over, it was decided by both the SJFAC and the owners of O'Reilly's that the Folk Club would be better served in another location.
We are happy to announce that Folk Club has now moved to the Ship Inn. It's something of a homecoming as Folk Club was held there for a period of time during the early eighties. The hours will be from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM and the cover charge will continue to be $3.00. Our latest sponsor, Eastern Audio, will provide the sound gear and Byron Pardy will be the new sound technician.
The SJFAC would like to thank the owners and staff at the Blarney Stone and O'Reilly's for their service and hospitality. Special thanks are in order for Wally Furlong, the bartender and manager at The Blarney Stone. His contribution to our Wednesday evenings went beyond pouring beer. He was an entertainer, a comedian, a philosopher and, like all great bartenders, a psychiatrist. At the last night at The Blarney Stone, Wally was presented with a lifetime pass to all SJFAC events including the summer festival. In the 33-year history of the SJFAC this is the first award of its kind and indicates the high esteem that we all hold for Wally.
The summer lineup is great and we hope to see you soon. If you would like to perform at folk club or if you would like to volunteer to host, please contact Don Walsh.
