The New Nude Calendar
by Andrew Lang                                                   The Broadside Vol 9. No. 2  August 2005

At the time of writing, plans for our third fundraising nude calendar are well under way, and on schedule for release at the Folk Festival. Following the success of the previous two years (the 2004 nude accordion calendar "Pulling Out All The Stops" and the 2005 nude guitar calendar "No Strings Attached"), the Folk Arts Council Board decided that in 2006 we should buff up with bagpipes and whistles – undoubtedly a more challenging proposition for intrepid photographer Sheilagh O'Leary. The average tin whistle might not be up for the job of hiding someone's private parts, even if a low D whistle is used! However, I'm sure our very talented photographer, as always bursting with enthusiasm and creativity, will be up to the task.

Early fears that a nude calendar would be in bad taste, have proven totally unfounded; once again the photographs combine humour, artistry and good taste. Well done, Sheilagh!

Many thanks to all the musicians who have selflessly risked their reputations and shed their clothes for such a worthy cause. Also, many thanks to all of you out there who bought previous calendars and are looking forward to buying the latest 2006 edition. Keep your eyes peeled for "Bags and Little Whistles."

Andrew Lang is the driving force behind the SJFAC’s nude calendar series. When he is not convincing musicians to undress, he is playing his mandocello with “Atlantic Union” and “The Auntie Crae Band.” He drills teeth on the side.
