Songs & Tunes |
That which was lost is found! Originally meant for the last issue of The Broadside, the tunes we have prepared for this issue were discovered, late, but with much relief under a stack of paper after the previous issue was on the stands. Dan Rubin composed these tunes for his buddies Stan Pickett and Frank Maher, who are fellow players at the Tuesday lunch sessions held weekly at Auntie Crae’s on Water Street. The first of these recent compositions – a jig called Running Up the Stairs (Auntie Crae’s Jig) – is dedicated to the lovely and talented Stan Pickett and his ever-nimble fingers and is an acknowledgement of the happy fact that Auntie Crae’s has two toilets on the upstairs level! The second tune, also a jig – The Streets of St. John’s – is dedicated to the lovely and talented Frank Maher and his ever-nimble wit. It was born during a band rehearsal with Atlantic Union and reflects discovering the delights of this city’s hilly downtown. ![]()
