This summer musicians and their families will have an opportunity to study the music of Newfoundland and Labrador in the beautiful natural setting of Gros Morne National Park. This is a great way to improve skills, share songs and tunes, and have lots of fun playing music. There will also be plenty of time for recreational activities for all participants - hiking, canoeing, swimming and day trips to Park sites. Killdevil Camp has all the facilities for a relaxing and fun vacation for the whole family. Classroom teachers, both musically trained and otherwise, are also encouraged to attend.
Students will learn music history, instrumental and vocal techniques, and do lots of solo and group performing. There will be instruction on the main fiddle, button accordion, and guitar - as well as traditional singing. Plus there will also be workshops in harp, keyboard, and folk dancing.
The principal instructors will be Jean Hewson (voice and guitar accompaniment), Christina Smith (fiddle and cello), Daniel Payne (accordion, tin whistle and fiddle) and Eric West (solo guitar and composition). Guest instructors will also be available to give workshops in harp, keyboard playing and folk dancing.
